Thanks for stopping by and leave me a comment to say hi and let me know you were here. I love comments!!! Have a great day and come back soon!

new home, new state, new everything

it has been a while since i have blogged. i have been packing, moving and unpacking. moving is fun but it is a ton of work. we are here in manassas, virginia, right outside of DC. it is a nice a quiet town but it is so far away from home. we have been here a little over a week now and we finally got our stuff and managed to unpack it all. josh leaves tomorrow for alabama for 2 months for a school before he starts his job here.  we drove here from texas in a 2 day car ride traveling 1,463 miles. man, that was a drive! my mom drove with us and that was a huge help. but driving thru the Appalachian mountains was amazing! this part of the country is much prettier than texas. i love that there are no billboards here just tons of trees and hills and mountains. our little neighborhood is across the street from prince william national park. we took a drive through there yesterday evening and it was breath taking! winding roads lined with huge trees and streams and bridges. i told josh it looked like the kind of place they make car commercials. i can’t wait to take pictures there!!! there are some killer spots for a trash the dress session. anyhow everything here is great. we are so close to so many cool things. we drove by mount vernon this weekend and we have so many places to go and see. i am excited for the culture and history our kids will see over the next few years. All that being said i am incredibly home sick. i miss texas and i miss my family. the only other time we have lived out of texas was the year josh was in flight school at fort rucker alabama. that is it. i have spent 27 of my 28 years in texas. i have never seen snow. well real snow, it kinda sleeted in houston 3 years ago. but that does not count. so i will be in for a shock this winter. i may just stay in my home office in my pj’s and drink coffee and work all winter. oh wait i already do that! haha! anyhow, it is weird not having the same things here. the grocery stores all have new names. i have never heard of bloom, shoppers or weigmans. no bluebell ice cream! and i am sure this is normal to most people but the freeways here do not have feeders. i would be so lost with out my iphone finding me all the time. so now that my mom left, and we are done unpacking and josh is leaving i will be here with the kids to explore our new hometown. i only have one wedding for the rest of the summer so I will be enjoying my summer as a stay at home mom. it is going to be fun!

our house is on this little street called a pipestem. basically it is a little street that stems off. we share it with three other houses. think of it as a mini cul-de-sac. it is really really cool for the kids to play and ride bikes. they have already made friends with the little boy and girl across the street.

I have a slow summer as well so let me know anytime you want to hang! There are a few small city water parks that I have yet to visit if you ever want to take the kids on a hot day, I would so be up for that!

June 5, 2008 - 11:40 am Rebecca - Go to Wegmans...it will change your life. It is a wonderful mecca of wonderfulness.

June 6, 2008 - 10:36 pm alldoneup - It looks like a wonderful place to raise a family.=) Their playroom is so cool, kids don't know how good they have it these days...hehe, I remember making paper dolls to have something to play with when I was younger. Anyways, just stopping by for you lovely pictures, I am obsessed with weddings right now even though I'm looking forward to a very small and intimate wedding (someday) myself. =d

June 7, 2008 - 11:12 am allison - It looks so American Dream-ish! Not that the heights house was slummin' by ANY means! =) I did notice we are on display twice in your office...I'm so honored! Good luck in the new city!

June 11, 2008 - 7:46 pm Dayna - Hey Laura! Just "dropped by" the site and I LOVE ya'll's new house. I think it's so cute! Wish my Army home in Oklahoma was a little more like that- haha! Hope you're doing well! ~Dayna

June 12, 2008 - 5:56 am kristin @ the fairmount bride - Love the front porch and swing. I told my fiance that the only way I will move out of the city will be to have a big front porch, with a swing. Totally reasonable request! :)

June 12, 2008 - 7:29 am Erin - Wow! Look how much house you can get if you live in Manassas!!! I live in Alexandria and you gotta be a millionaire to have that size of a house up here! :-)

July 10, 2008 - 10:24 am Irene L. - Hi! I'm a friend of Talida's (from when she lived in VA) and LOVE LOVE LOVE your work. Your engagement and wedding photos are just phenomenal and I'll be happy to recommend you where I can. Welcome to Virginia! I have 2 boys and there are definitely so many wonderful family outings in this region. You've got the history, museums, zoo, mountains, oceans, Hershey Park, Amish country, etc. within 1-2 hours drive. Lots to do with the kiddos. Good luck settling in! (My brother's been in Austin Tx for a couple years... I feel awful that we haven't gotten a chance to visit him yet.) Do you have interest in doing any commercial photography (portraits, events, etc.)? Let me know... I can give you a connection where I work (at NIH).

August 3, 2008 - 7:26 pm kate - wow - you're house is gorgeous! you will soon get used to wegmans, basements, and lots of icey snow storms!

April 6, 2009 - 11:38 am Carolina - I LOVE YOUR HOUSE LAURA....! Outside, inside, is AWESOME...! Congrats & good luck forever...!
