Snow Day

So our snow day just kept getting better. First Josh came home early and we made a snowman. Then our friends the Jacobsen’s came over with their sled and we went to the hill to have some fun. I went down with Will and tumbled with him. When we sat up he had snow up his nose. oops! We had so much fun and I can say I am so glad we lived here and got to experience this. We need to get some snow clothes before we have another snow day. We all had so much fun today!!! The perfect way to end this snow day was with hot chocolate and coffee. :)

Our First Snow!

YAY snow! So this is officially my first snow ever in my whole entire life! We got out first thing this morning and played for a little bit. Kate made her first snow angel which she has always wanted to do. We are back inside warming up letting it snow more and hopefully in a little bit we are going to go sledding and play in it more. I am sure I will have more pictures to celebrate this super cool fun day!

Jennifer and Lloyd

Jennifer and Lloyd were my first 09 couple! They were married at the First United Methodist Church in DC and the reception was at the Carnegie Institute of Washington. This wedding was special for so many reasons. Maria Cook of Ritzy Bee was their planner and she is so sweet and amazing to work with. I loved Jennifer’s taste in gold and her dress. Everything was beautiful! I really liked the sixpence that was an old family tradition. They had a bagpipe and that  just gives me goose bumps and feels like a wedding. It was amazing to see him warm up in the street as guests were arriving. Everyone on the streets of DC were turning heads. The reception was right across the street so we all walked over together and they entered with the Arch of Swords. That was super fun to watch! Another fun surprise was that Jennifer had as her gift to Lloyd a poker room set up. She had dealers from Dealers Choice Casinos come with tables and whisky and cigars hidden until the right moment and for the guys to play Texas Hold Em. A few months back Jennifer and Lloyd learned that they were being transfered to Hawaii. So the following week after the wedding they moved. To Hawaii! They had a lei and ukulele send off in honor of their new adventure they get to start as a husband and wife.

Coffee Table Book

I am about to mail out Patricia’s coffee table book but I decided to take a few pics of it to post on the blog first. She as most of my clients use the coffee table book for their engagement signature book. I design it to that there is a picture on the left and a blank white page on the right for their guests to sign and leave a little message. This is one of my favorite products because it showcases their super cool engagement pictures and the guests LOVE to flip thru the book and leave a note during the reception. It is kind of year book style minus the b.f.f (best friend forever) and k.i.t (keep in touch). I thought I would spell those out in case you didn’t know. ;) Do they still do that? Maybe I am getting too old. But back in March I remember someone writing their message in a spiral in I think Tim and Talida’s book. Anyhow, it looked awesome! The best part is when it is all said and done the couple has a really cool book with their favorite engagement pictures and notes from all of their family and friends to look at in one sitting. I really love this particular book because this is the first time I have ordered the red cover. For the past 2 years that I have been offering this book everyone chooses the black cover. I am loving the red. So Patricia keep an eye out. This book is on it’s way!!!

Jenn and Jonathan

Jenn is a great photographer friend of mine here. We live about 5 minutes from each other so that is nice. Especially when I have been stuck and needed a ride home from the airport or one time there was no one else in the world to watch my kids so I could go to the doctor. Yup Jenn is great. Not only a great friend but a great photographer. check her out: Jenn Link Photography. I was very excited when she asked me to shoot some engagement pics of her and Jonathan. Saturday was a nice yet cold overcast day and I thought it would be perfect so we went to the forest across the road from me. The minute we started shooting it started sprinkling. Wet and frozen sprinkles. So we toughed it out and kept going. I have never shot in the freezing rain and really if you know me you know I would try to avoid that if possible. BUT if you know me you also know I love shooting engagement sessions and sometimes the worst situations produce the best images. Jenn and Jonathan are getting married here in October and they hired some big important Canadian Photographers, which might be super cool because I will get to be a guest at a wedding. I can’t even remember what that is like. But it will be fun! So here you go. Enjoy.

CoCo Sala = yum!

Last night I went to CoCo Sala in DC for some food and drinks with other ladies in this fun wedding industry. Maria with the Ritzy Bee invited us to get together and hang out. Being that it was 1. Cold 2. Downtown and 3. This close the the Inauguration is was amazing that I made it. I am trying to avoid Downtown right now because they are already setting up road blocks and events are about to start happening and it is just going to be crazy busy. Poor Josh has to work the whole thing but I am just going to stay home. Anyhow Last night was so fun. CoCo Sala was amazing. I love chocolate and i had a new twist on one of my favorite drinks. A chocolate mojito. YUM! I took my little Canon G9 point and shoot along because I always forget to take a camera when I get together with friends and it is just so fun to take snapshots. Big cameras stay home most of the time. It was so great to see Maria (Ritzy Bee) and Vicky Choy (event accomplished). It was also amazing to meet Laura Auer (Wish Special Events), Chana Brissett , Meagan McKechnie (RSVP Catering) and Kate Headly (Kate Headley Photography). We had so much fun eating and drinking chocolate everything! Thanks Maria!!!

Happy 2009!

2009 is already off to a great start and I am excited to see what all it brings. I have already shot one amazing wedding this year and I am looking forward to many more. So far we we have Jennifer, Patricia, Veronica, Chelsea, Haley, Emily, Megan, Brooke, Mary, and Ina. I have weddings here in DC, Maryland, Virginia, I get to go back to Houston a few times and we get to go to St. Maarten. This week I have 3 more weddings I am hoping to add to this list with fun locations as well. I booked my trip for Las Vegas next month for WPPI. that is a HUGE Photographers Convention and Trade Show. I am sharing a suite with 7 other AMAZING Photographer Ladies so I am very much looking forward to that. Later in the year I am excited for a week long Vacation with another group of fabulous photographer ladies. This year is already off to such a great start! so I was thinking last night that I have been tagged in a few get to know you notes on facebook but really I thought it would be good for me to just spill it here on my blog for all of you. So for all of you that wanted to know more about me. So here is goes. Random things about me.

Let me first say that I love God and my family and they are above all the most important things in my life.

My favorite color changes often. right now it is gray but a few months ago it was purple, then green before that.

I love LOST and THE OFFICE

I miss my Houston friends but i am so happy for all of the DC ones i have already!

I really think i have the coolest job ever. Really i do.

My youngest Will starts Kindergarten this year so that is huge! Kate will be in 2nd grade! Wow!

I love lattes - skim with 3/4 of a Splenda.

I love mojitos and champagne not together of course, separate glasses.

Ikea makes me happy.

I make great cremy cilantro dip and guac.

Mexican food is my all time favorite. I could eat it for every meal.

I take my time on little purchases but big ones i make quickly. I usually know what I want, need OR can’t live with out. Sometimes I get those confused.

Old school music I LOVE: Jimmy Buffet, The Black Crows, ACDC, Aerosmith to name a few. Also I have always thought Steven Tyler was cute. Weird I know.

I used to be int he FFA and I won grand champion lamb one year…I have a belt buckle somewhere to prove it.

I am horrible speller. This year I am trying to type regular and use uppercase letters. There are a few words that haunt me that I can not even spell close enough for spell check to recognize. That is just sad!

I was 19 when Josh and I got married. 22 when I had Kate and 24 when I had Will.

Sometimes I can’t believe I am married with the best family ever. I love my life. I am blessed.

Josh and I met the day I graduated high school in Gulf Shores Alabama on a church Beach Retreat.

One year before that I became a christian on the same trip.

I am an Army wife by title but I am nothing like a typical Army wife.

Josh and I (I say I because we decided together) made a career change and decided to joined the Army after 911. He is a Black Hawk Pilot. I am extremely proud of him.

We have survived Josh serving two tours to Iraq. Hopefully never again.

My sister Lisa and I are twins born two years apart.

I love warm weather and I do not like being cold.

I like getting packages in the mail but I hate going to the post office.

I love having a clean car but I hate doing it myself. Same goes for the house and laundry.

If you would have told me four years ago that my business would be anywhere close to where it is today I would have not believed you.

I really really like daytime outside weddings. I love the sun.

Shooting engagement sessions are so fun especially when I get to choose where to go and what to do.

I think it would awesome to have every one of my clients over for dinner. Who wants to come over?

Even when I try to not talk about photography I end up taking about photography. I can’t help it. It is in my blood now.

I have had the most amazing clients. I love that I am friends with each and every one. I love hearing about pregnancies, new home, new adventures and what ever is going on in their lives.

This felt really good to type all of this out!

Thanks for reading and following my blog. I appreciate everyone especially if you leave me a comment. ;)
